Billy has researched for 40 years, mostly as a professional researcher. She attended San Jose State, Antioch College, and finished a BA in history at UC Irvine, before a year of graduate work in history. She is co-author of Vital Information in the Guion-Miller Roll an index to the applicants trying to prove Eastern Cherokee descent and author of African Cherokee Connections an extraction from the Miller Roll to connect those African-American families with Cherokee descent. She is the owner of Indian Scout Books based in Gilroy, California
