KAYE
BOHLER
Kaye Bohler is a powerhouse blues woman who has been compared to Tina
Turner, Janis Joplin, Bette Midler and Mick Jagger for her strength as
a stage performer and rich vocal tones. Kaye’s career began in the
early 80s fronting cover bands from San Diego to Los Angeles. She sang
and danced her way through Japan with The American Can Can Review. She
toured the Nevada casino and resort circuit with the seven piece show band
Capone. At age 26, she discovered the blues and in her own words – “When
I found the blues, I came home.” After returning to Los Angeles, she formed
the Big K Blues Band, and performed around southern California. In 1993
Kaye moved north to San Luis Obispo, starting the successful band Kaye
Bohler and the Kingpins.
In 1998, Kaye joined the popular world-beat band Pele JuJu from San
Francisco, and began performing on the festival circuit from Texas to California,
Oregon and Alaska. This prompted her move to the San Francisco Bay Area,
where she formed the Kaye Bohler Blues Band. The band is composed of veteran
blues musicians from the Bay Area, including Bruce Ferrell on guitar, June
Core on drums, Keith Milne on bass, and Michael Peloquin on saxophone and
harmonica. In Kaye's words, ”I feel extremely blessed to have such
seasoned blues men on my team.“ The band released their first CD, “Men
and Music”, in 2000.
THE GARY MENDOZA BAND
After a three year lay-off from the electric side of performing, Gary
Mendoza is back with a vengeance with his new band. The Gary Mendoza
Band is a hard driving band filled with experienced Central Coast musicians.
The band rocks the house with a blend of Chicago/Delta-style blues and
California West-Coast-style blues.
Gary Mendoza (lead vocals and harmonica) is a bluesman at heart, raised on the traditional sounds of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Little Walter. Since 1995, he has fronted such bands as Code Blues, The Blues Effects, and The Salt Water Blues Band. Bruce Krupnik (guitar, slide guitar, & vocals) has been playing on the Central Coast for the past six years and is a former guitarist for Slidewinder and The Hoodoo Blues Band. Tom Howells (electric bass) played with Gary in the Code Blues Band and, after sitting in with various other blues bands on the Central Coast, has reunited with Gary. Eloy Hernandez (drums) is a newcomer to the blues scene with deep roots in gospel. He has been playing in gospel bands since the age of nine.
VOLUNTEER
Your Blues Society is run entirely by volunteers. Besides a sense of accomplishment,
volunteers get into the shows for free and receive a couple free drink
tickets. We could use your help, so call 541-7930 (our voice mail
number) and volunteer to work a shift at the show.
