Karen
Tyler
Karen Tyler is a seasoned veteran of both the California and Texas blues scenes who has traveled the country and studied many different blues styles. Having fallen in love with Memphis, Piedmont, swing, boogie woogie, gospel and Texas acoustic blues, she weaves elements of these styles into her songwriting and singing. This has lead to the creation of three critically acclaimed blues CDs: "Lovin’ the Blues Too Long" (1997), "Alone & Blue" (2000), and "All Shades of Blue" (2003).
Since moving from Texas to central California in 1998,
Karen has seen a good deal of success playing as an acoustic solo or acoustic
duo with her husband/bass player/lap steel player Fred Murray. For
special occasions, Karen puts together the Karen Tyler Band featuring Fred
Murray on bass, brother David Murray on lead and rhythm guitar, and Jim
Stromburg on drums. Tyler writes the songs for the band and plays
both lead and rhythm guitar in addition to providing some very sultry and
dynamic vocals. This band won first place in the 2003 Monterey Bay
Blues Festival’s Battle of the Bands. Having competed with 150 of the best
blues bands in California, the Karen Tyler Band’s first place honor recognizes
the talent of this band. Here’s a chance to come and dance to the
Karen Tyler Band and hear why the quartet was selected as the best blues
band in California. “Karen Tyler succeeds where 99% of sassy blues
mamas fail and it’s thanks to her exceptional songwriting and a voice that
delivers the full spectrum from slow, smoky and sultry to raise-the-roof
rock.” - Real Blues Magazine. Preview the show at www.karentyler.com.
Catalina
Eddy and the Meat Bees featuring the Breeze
This exciting San Luis Obispo County blues band is led
by local music legend Catalina Eddy (aka Ted Waterhouse) on slide guitar
and vocals. The band includes Mike “Snake Boy” Elliott on electric
guitar, “Atomic” Jim Stromburg on drums, Fred “never call him Mac” Murry
on bass, plus the featured vocals and harmonica of “The Breeze” (aka Debra
Windsong). The group plays a lively mix of tunes, infused with a sprinkling
of Catalina Eddy originals and classics from Delta, Jump, and Chicago Blues
styles. Their music is sure to pack the dance floor.

a sense of accomplishment, volunteers get into the shows for free and receive
a couple free drink tickets. We could use your help, so call 541-7930

and volunteer to work a shift at the show.
