The Blues Effects
The Blues Effects Band plays an electrified
Chicago style blues mixed with rhythm and blues. Their music is upbeat
and danceable, with a boogie beat. The band is based in San Luis
Obispo and has been playing together for four years. It is composed
of veteran musicians with over 20 years of experience playing the blues.
The band includes Jon Turner on guitar, Andy Kuliskowski on bass, Kevin
McHatten on drums, and Stan Sine on harmonica. All of the band members
contribute vocals.
The HooDoo Blues Band
If you missed them at the First Night
celebration, get ready for a treat. The HooDoo Blues Band plays a
powerful blend of Chicago, Texas, and West Coast blues. These talented
local musicians are geared up and ready to play their hot, sweaty mix of
tunes that includes originals, classics, and some not so well known smokey
blues. Band members include Robi "Dog" Duganne (formerly of BellaDonna
and the Night Gypsies) on guitar and vocals; John Van Eps (formerly of
Fantasy Sandwich) on bass; Dustin Rhoads (formerly of Glider) on drums;
Lisa Plevel (formerly of Code Blues) on vocals; and Cecelia LoForti (formerly
of Home Brew) on harmonica and vocals. This is band of veteran performers
who like to see all of their friends dancing to the Blues.
Slidewinder Blues
The Slidewinder Blues Band has been performing
on the Central Coast for the past three years. The band plays Chicago
style blues such as songs by Little Walter, Howlin Wolf, and Elmore James.
The band is fronted by Chris "Catfish" Jezek who is the vocalist and harmonica
player for the band. His unique vocal stylings and driving harmonica solos
give the band a unique flavor. The drummer, Franco Oliveira, is the
backbone of the band's pulsing sound. He is a skilled Blues drummer
who knows how to capture the feel of a shuffle, jump, or slow blues.
The band's bass player, Ric Briley, remains steady, in the pocket and in
a perfect groove with the drummer. Ric has played on the Central
Coast for the past twenty years and provides the bounce and structure essential
to the blues sound. Slidewinder gets its name from lead guitarist
Bruce Krupnik who plays kick-ass slide guitar. His powerful rhythm
playing and awesome lead work guarantees you'll be up on your feet and
dancing. |
