E. C. Scott
E. C. Scott is a blues, R&B, and soul diva with a warm, inviting
voice and a “classic” style – think Ruth Brown or Aretha Franklin.
She is a singer with a gospel background, but sassy enough to be a hit
on a Motown stage. “Scott has one of the sexiest, smoothest, and most understated
deliveries in the blues and is a powerhouse entertainer to boot.
E. C. is a wonderful soul singer and effective and invigorating blues interpreter.”
(Blues Revue)
While growing up in Oakland, Scott spent her childhood singing gospel music. At the age of 16, she started singing R&B music in Bay Area nightclubs. But Scott’s singing career was put on hold for family reasons until the late 1980s. Then, she formed a band called Smoke and started touring the Bay area, playing a mixture of blues and R&B.
In 1995, she released her first CD with Blind Pig Records called Come Get Your Love. Its original material and infectious grooves received a lot of praise and several award nominations. Her “blues with a hip-hop flavor” marked her as a creative R&B vocalist on the cutting edge of blues. Her 1998 release, Hard Act To Follow, got her a W. C. Handy Award nomination for Soul/Blues Female Artist of the Year. Masterpiece, her most recent release, showcases her special blend of R&B and soul-infected blues. It contains mostly originals that spotlight her talents as a “witty, often ribald, sometimes sweet, and always perceptive” songwriter (Stereo Review).
Guy Budd Band
This band features Guy Budd on guitar & vocals, Rafael Martinez
on drums, Andy Kulikowski on bass & vocals, and Anthony Hunt on keyboard
& vocals. Guy Budd has been performing on the Central Coast since
1978, and is well known for his full-bodied voice and wildly proficient
guitar work. Martinez, Kulikowski, and Hunt anchor Budd's Hendrix
influenced guitar work. The band's performances primarily feature
originals that encompass a wide range of blues/rock styles, from screaming
guitar jams to soulful ballads, supplemented with traditional up tempo
blues covers. This is a band that works well together, exploring
their own music while maintaining strong roots in the blues.
