CANDYE
KANE
Up
and coming blues recording artist Candye Kane has long been a legend in
underground circles. By her mid-twenties, Kane had been a gang member,
single mother, exotic dancer, and punk rock musician, when she was discovered
and then dumped by a major record label in the same year. In the
late 80’s, she started a new life when she moved to San Diego, got married,
become a Women’s Studies major, and discovered the blues. The blues
was an inspiration to Kane – an art form in which a woman with a colorful
past and plus-sized body could sing about her life experiences and be accepted.
Kane sings in the tradition of Big Mamma Thornton, Etta James, and Bessie
Smith; and dresses in feathers and sequins. Her songs combine humor,
civil rights, and sexuality. A live performance is “Mississippi by
way of Las Vegas with a quick stop in San Francisco.” Come and hear
this blues diva celebrate sexuality, shatter stereotypes, and give us a
great time on the dance floor.
Since her first CD Home Cookin’ in 1992, Candye has recorded 7 CDs. Her newest recording, Guitar’d and Feathered (RUF Records), is scheduled for release on April 22. The music ranges from delta blues to rockabilly and soul. The list of contributing performers is awesome, including Bob Margolin, Sue Foley, Dave Alvin, Junior Watson, Papa Chubby, Kid Ramos, Bob Brozman, and Ana Popovic, along with Candye’s regular band and one of her sons. Candye believes this recording is her bluesiest, complimented by plenty of sexy, soulful singing.
SHOTTA

Janis Joplin, and Robert Johnson. Shotta KAVA will have their first
