LYNWOOD SLIM BLUES BAND
Nearly 40 years ago, Lynwood Slim traded his trumpet in for a harmonica, citing Jimmy Reed, Little Walter, and Paul Oscher as his early influences.  Lynwood enriches his swing blues repertoire with a dynamic stage presence, expressive vocals, and a nuanced blues harp.  His latest CD release, Last Call on Delta Groove, showcases the kind of swing spirit that merged jazz and blues during the Swing Era for a good time.

“I’ve just always liked that swing stuff.  I don’t know why; it kinda just grabbed me when I was a kid.  Jimmy Reed was my first guy that I really listened to playing the harmonica in the early 60’s.  They had a radio show in LA called XERB with Wolfman Jack on it and he broadcast it out of Tijuana Mexico because they wouldn’t give him a license in the United States.  He played all these Ivory Joe Hunter songs and Margie Evans and Johnny Otis; a lotta R&B stuff, Little Walter.  When I was nine, ten years old I used to listen to it all the time.” - interview for LOS in de Blues, Radio BEEK, the Netherlands.

Lynwood Slim’s recent release Last Call (2006, Delta Groove) is a swinging collection of blues and jazz standards.  In addition to contributing vocals and harp, Slim crafted arrangements that showcased the swing side of several well-known guitarists, including Kid Ramos, Kirk Fletcher, and Armando Cortez.  Over the years, Lynwood has released five albums and in the past ten years, he has appeared on over 15 CDs, recording with blues performers such as Junior Watson, R.L. Burnside, Nick Moss, and Candye Kane.  Lynwood’s band features John Marx on guitar, Johnny Bazz on bass, and Ron Felton on drums. Soundclips and more are available at Lynwood Slim's website.

BLUES DEVILLE.  Blues DeVille plays traditional Delta blues, Chicago blues, Texas boogie and R&B-funk.  The band caters to dancers and incorporates improvisation and jazz-like interaction.  Blues DeVille has a distinctive sound that comes across in cover tunes while still preserving the original vibe of the song.  Band members include Steve Wright (vocals, trumpet, harmonica), Larry Curtis (guitar), Paul Stewart (drums), Joe Jiles (bass), and Scott Klynas (keyboard).

VOLUNTEER.Your Blues Society is run entirely by volunteers. Besides a sense of accomplishment, volunteers get into the shows for free and receive a couple free drink tickets.  We could use your help, so call 541-7930 (our voice mail number) and volunteer to work a shift at the show.
